Mark your calendars for these fun fundraisers!

Over the past 18 months A Special Wish Foundation — Dayton Chapter (ASW) has been shared stories about the many local children we have served. The stories have shared the excitement of visiting Walt Disney World and meeting Mickey Mouse, to placing a foot into the ocean, to meeting a favorite celebrity or athlete. As summer approaches, so does “wish season.”

Looking ahead to the next few months, ASW is excited to be granting the special wishes of dozens of area children over the summer months. Summer is always a busy time for ASW, as it tends to be the time that many families prefer to be granted wishes. Most Wish Families will be visiting one of ASW’s biggest partners, Give Kids the World Village and Walt Disney World in Florida. There are even a few other wishes in the works that have never been done before at ASW Dayton Chapter including halibut fishing in Alaska and meeting a renowned country music star. We look forward to sharing these great wish stories with you in the near future.

Also coming up this summer, is the Vectren Dayton Air Show’s A Special Wish Preview Day. Through the generosity of the Air Show board of directors, Dayton Power and Light Company and the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority, Wish Families will be special guests of the Air Show and will be treated to a preview of the weekend’s festivities. This preview allows Wish Families to be part of one of the best events of the summer without dealing with the large crowds. Carrie, a Special Wish mom recalls, “Peyton thinks the Air Show preview is her personal VIP pass, and the whole day makes her feel so special.”

A Special Wish Foundation will also be participating in many community events, and you are invited to come out and join in all the fun.

If hitting the links is your idea of a great summer day, then join ASW on Saturday, June 4, at Community Golf Club for the annual George Klockson Memorial Golf Tournament. This two-person best-ball shotgun start is presented by the Shawenn family, whose son Dayton was a wish recipient. The tournament offers 18 holes of golf, putting contest, raffle and lunch.

Pickin’ in the Park is back the first Friday of June and August from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton. Pickin’ in the Park is a family friendly concert featuring the best in progressive bluegrass. ASW invites you, your family and friends to enjoy a relaxing night with great music, amazing food options presented by local food trucks. Pickin’ in the Park is a partnership between Five Rivers MetroParks and Bonbright Distributors.

Local firefighters will once again be bringing the heat as they compete to be part of the 2016-17 annual Hunks and Ladders calendar. ASW is proud to be one of the benefactors from the sale of the calendar. The Hunks & Ladders Combat Challenge will take place on June 25, from 4 to 10 p.m. at Austin Landing. Please join us for a fun night and cheer on your favorite firefighter. The Combat Challenge will determine who will win the first-place trophy and which guys will be featured in the next edition of the Hunks & Ladders Calendar.

Other events benefiting ASW this summer are Cameron’s Smile 5K on Sept. 4 in Piqua. The Cruise the Gate car show takes place Sept. 17 at Golden Gate Park in Brookville. These two events are organized by former Wish Families who have taken it upon themselves to give back, so other children in the area can be granted a Special Wish

“Between having so many wishes being granted and our packed events calendar, summer is always a busy and fun time for us,” says David Seyer, executive director of ASW Dayton. “We are just so thankful for the support to make all that we do possible.”
